Dr Raja Sawhney

Specialist Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon

Dr Raja Sawhney is a Board Certified Specialist Plastic surgeon. He has been the Director of Sculpted Clinic on the Gold Coast of Australia since 2012. Through Sculpted clinic he provides Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery. A large amount of his workload is breast surgery, both cosmetic and Reconstructive. Dr Sawhney is also the Director of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Gold Coast Hospital & Health Services, across Gold Coast University, Robina and Varsity Lakes day Hospitals. In this position he provides reconstructive surgery to patients with Cancer, Trauma and Developmental anomalies. He presents at National and International conferences and travels regularly to expand his knowledge and keep abreast of advances in his field.

He regulary performs breast reductions using a technique he has modified over many years to enhance results. He has refined and popularised the use of autologous fat transfer in breast surgery in Australia. Besides breast surgery, his surgical interests include facial aesthetics. He performs Face Lift / meloplasty, Neck Lift / Cervicoplasty and Rhinoplasty surgery. Other major interests include Surgery of the Hand.

He performs most of his cosmetic and private reconstructive surgeries at Gold Coast Private Hospital. He also has admitting rights at Pindara and John Flynn Hospitals, as well as Brisbane Private Hospital.

Training and Qualifications

Dr Raja was born in London, UK where at the age of 17 he started his medical degree at Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospitals, qualifying as a doctor by the age of 22. Soon after, he was a demonstrator of Surgical Anatomy at the Anatomy school of Guy’s Hospital, London before moving to Australia in 1998. He gained experience in numerous surgical specialties including general, paediatric, orthopaedic, vascular, transplant and cardiac surgery. Dr Raja worked in several Queensland hospitals, during which he spent three years living on the Gold Coast and decided to make it home. To culminate his experience, he decided on a career in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery which he commenced in 2005.

He was accepted to and commenced advanced training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2007 governed by the Royal Australasian College of Surgery (RACS) and the Australian Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He completed this training and was awarded Fellowship from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery – FRACS (Plast) in 2011.

Experience and Skills

After his training he started work at Gold Coast & Robina Hospitals where he soon became Director of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. At that stage, the Gold Coast had a rudimentary public hospital service for his specialty. He played a pivotal role in developing a comprehensive unit to service the demand for breast cancer resection and reconstruction, lower limb trauma and complex head and neck cancer resection and reconstruction. He dedicates a majority of his time to complex and challenging reconstructive surgery for patients who have had deformities, either from birth, from abnormal development, or after trauma or cancer. This equips him with an advanced skill set, knowledge and experience to deliver a tailored approach to each individual patient, however simple or complex the need. 

Philosophy

Dr Raja Sawhney believes that utilising surgical and non-surgical techniques, all parts of the body can be corrected, rejuvenated or enhanced. Owing to his clinical background in reconstructive plastic surgery, Dr Raja provides each and every one of his patients with expertise, support and empathy in an ever caring and considerate manner.
